That’s right! Even with our years of experience, training, and talent (😊), we often check in with the philosophies of feng shui when we stage a home to make sure that we create a space that welcoming and has a positive energy that will appeal to buyers.

Yeppers, feng shui helps us create homes with seriously good vibes!

But what exactly IS feng shui (often pronounced fuhng-shwey), you ask?

In short, it’s a belief that every object has an energy (or chi) and the way we arrange our objects will affect our moods and well-being. The goal is to create a home that feels happy, balanced, and harmonious, and this can be achieved by the way we arrange furniture and how we decorate.

How to Decorate with Feng Shui: The Living Room

The living room is where we gather, share conversation, relax, watch TV, and entertain family and friends. It’s important to make it a room that is welcoming to everyone.

Here are things to consider:

  • A little decluttering goes a long way. Save all the “stuff” for the basement rec room! Because the living area is the room guests most often see, clear shelves and tables of unnecessary items.

  • Make sure that each member of the household has a comfortable place to sit.

  • Arrange furniture to invite conversation and interaction.

  • Use your furniture and décor to keep the five elements of feng shui in balance – earth, metal, water, wood, and fire.

  • Hang artwork that has a neutral yet pleasing vibe (avoid ‘emotionally charged’ subjects) and helps bring in the colours of the five elements and ties the decor in the room together.
